March 21st 2012Our mouth is the doorway to the rest of the body. It delivers our words, smiles or grimaces, and feeds us. Most people tend to ignore the body in general in the absence of pain. The same is especially true for the mouth. The problem with this way of thinking is that once pain develops in the mouth the oral problem is now severe. As a dental hygienist we have a lot of information from the experiences of helping others with their teeth. If we just had more time to share this with you these are the things we would say.
Added sugar in raisin cereals increases acidity of dental plaque
March 21st 2012Elevated dental plaque is a risk factor tat contributes to cavities in children. But eating bran flakes with raisins containing no added sugar does not promote more acid in dental plaque than bran flakes alone, according to new research at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Studies have shown that raisins are rapidly cleared from the surface fo the teeth just like apples, bananas and chocolate.
Instrumentation for all-ceramics
March 21st 2012Through the accelerated advancement of CAD/CAM technology and material science, dentists have several new, high strength all-ceramic materials in the indirect portfolio to choose from. The recent dramatic increase in the cost of gold in combination with current economic conditions is accelerating demand for these new products. Dentists are prescribing these new metal-free all-ceramic restorations at a rapidly accelerating pace.

March 13th 2012A team at the Vienna University of Technology recently set a speed record for 3D printing on a nano-scale with a new "two-photon lithography" technology that uses a focused laser to print solid objects from a liquid resin.
